Humboldt – 2017 National Finalist
The City of Humboldt was first incorporated as a Community in 1905, since that time the Community has consistently grown to a population of 6,804 with a serving population of 35,000 within a 100km radium. The Community of Humboldt considered a Central hub for the region and located in the heart of Saskatchewan. Within a 260km radius of the community, you will find ten of the 15 Saskatchewan cities. The City of Humboldt serves the area with a new state of the art Health Complex, 18 hole Golf course, Multi-purpose Recreation Facility, public and catholic schools and many park spaces.
Humboldt’s people are friendly and hard-working, but they are also welcoming of diversity. Cultural diversity goes hand in hand with economic and intellectual development. The community has a newcomers center for the settlement of newcomers to the community. The community has a number of murals and a cultural mosaic on the side of the library, facing a heritage garden of plants that homesteaders brought to the area.
In 2012 the community is particularly proud of completing a major project with a new High School and College attached to an existing Multi-purpose Recreation Facility, with a year around Aquatic Center, 1772 Ice Arena, 6 sheet curling rink and a convention center. This 200,000 square foot linked facility is greatly serving the students and community through a Joint operating agreement and Joint use Agreement.
The City of Humboldt has been a Communities in Bloom Community since 2006, winning provincial awards in 2007 & 2008. The Community has been participating in the National program since 2010. The success of the program has been the strength of the Committee and the partnerships they have created throughout the community.
