Growing Hope in 2018 – Pink Days in Bloom

Growing Hope in 2018

Happily, Spring is just around the corner! As we look forward to shaking off the sleepiness of winter, we begin to plan for a warm & glorious gardening season ahead. Whether you’re a gardener or a “garden tourist”, #PinkDaysInBloom & #ThePinkTreeProject is a high-spirited way to celebrate gardens & healthful living, & a fulfilling way to fund breast cancer research & community programs! I encourage everyone to get involved in this beautiful, life-giving initiative in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.

Thank you to our exceptional Pink Days In Bloom hosts for your past participation & continued loyalty. You’ve been truly outstanding in your efforts, genuinely caring, authentic in your message & making a real impact. With your help, nearly $140,000 has been raised so far. AGAIN, THANK YOU. I just can’t say it enough. I speak on behalf of the entire breast cancer community when I say that we feel grateful & blessed to have found many true, inspiring friendships over the years through Pink Days In Bloom events. That is the very best part of it all. We love you, & I hope to work with all of you again in 2018 to raise awareness & make possible innovative research that extends our lives.

As many of you know, this is the time of year when I connect with our encouraging hosts, schedule events, network with potential new supporters & brainstorm ideas for the coming season. If you’d like to host a Pink Days In Bloom event this year, whether you own a garden centre, have a landscaping business, operate a tea room, bakery, retail or florist shop, or are interested in holding a private fundraiser in your own home or garden – the possibilities are endless – & if we haven’t talked already, I would LOVE to hear from you & include you in our 2018 calendar!

If you’ve been sitting on the fence, thinking for some time about hosting, here’s some information you might want to consider & I hope you’ll find helpful:

  • You can hold your event at any time throughout the year. Pink Days In Bloom’s “The Little Christmas Fair”, for example, happens at Rocket Bakery in St. John’s, NL in November. “Pink Poinsettia Days In Bloom” is hosted by Rise & Shine Nursery, Goulds, NL in early December, & “Christmas Wreaths for the Cure” by The Wreath Maker is held throughout the holiday season.
  • You don’t need to spend money on advertising. Social media sites & public service announcements are just some of the convenient tools that can be used effectively in promoting your activities & getting the word out.
  • Where possible, when you invite other community groups or vendors to partner, you can build greater awareness about the cause & achieve increased visibility for your business.
  • Networking with other like-minded community groups & individuals is key in sharing your message & enthusiasm for a successful event.

We know that cultivating community engagement is important in growing any business. It’s goodwill that just can’t be bought! Pink Days In Bloom FUNdraisers offer an opportunity for businesses to connect with their employees & valued customers, & rally the community in supporting a cause that affects us all in one way or another. And, everybody has a great time being part of something special! In addition to all the good feelings that grow from Pink Days In Bloom, monies raised are in support of life-saving research & life-changing community programs; & the monies raised in each region stay in the region. So, if you’ve been thinking about getting involved, I hope this is the year you decide to go for it!

On a personal note, as a breast cancer survivor, I know firsthand the meaning of a cancer diagnosis & the impact it can have on your life & the lives of family & friends. Once you have walked through that “cancer door”, there’s no turning back; everything in your world changes forever. We know that often from significant pain, comes significant purpose. My own experience in championing this cause is that compared to any amount of personal investment, the rewards are immeasurable—many who volunteer for the right reasons & from the heart, can testify to this. Our purpose in life is to serve others. Developing meaningful connections with people & knowing that you are making a positive difference is the absolute gain. Finding purpose can be a life-long journey for most of us. When we find purpose, it gives us energy, strength & brings true joy within. I’d love for you to be part of Pink Days In Bloom as we have many new & exciting things happening in 2018! I think you’ll find it is a very worthwhile part of the journey.

To learn more about this meaningful initiative & upcoming events that you won’t want to miss, I invite you & your family & friends to ‘Like’ Pink Days in Bloom on Facebook, follow on Twitter @LindaPDIB, or contact your local branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. And, of course, you’re welcome to contact me personally. My email address is linda.pinkdaysinbloom@gmail.com. Life is gorgeous in the garden! Together, we are “Growing HOPE” for a future without breast cancer.

Wishing you a beautiful day,
Linda Ryan
