Bruderheim – 2017 National Finalist
Bruderheim is located in the southwest of the Alberta HUB region within the Alberta Industrial Heartland. Alberta HUB is a partnership of communities, post-secondary educational institutions and business/industry meant to enhance the quality of life and economic interests of the region. The Town of Bruderheim is a vibrant community of over 1,300 residents, located on the western High Load Corridor that serves the northeast. The local economy is mainly agricultural based, with a growing impact from local industry. The Town is home to a growing K-six school, and the regional medical clinic and hospital are only 10 minutes away. A local park system, walking trails, and indoor and outdoor hockey arenas, as well as easy access to Elk Island National Park, provide for abundant recreational opportunities.
Located in resource-rich Lamont County, Bruderheim is in the Alberta Industrial Heartland, with 20 billion dollars of investment planned. There are over 1700 oil/gas wells in the County, and the Town is ideally located to service regional oil sands projects.
Many opportunities exist to establish a business base in Bruderheim. The area is well served by major highways, including a High Load Corridor. Major pipelines run nearby, enhancing Bruderheim’s appeal to the service industry. In addition, agriculture is a major industry for Bruderheim, and Lamont County, the third largest county in the Alberta HUB region with gross farm receipts of $ 117 million (2010). There are multiple livestock operations in the region. Farms also produce a variety of crops including canola, barley, wheat and peas.
Bruderheim also has a range of services including accommodations, fine dining, and access to shopping that make this an ideal place to start a business and a family.

Bruderheim residents have easy access to doctors, dental and denture clinics, and a pharmacy located in Lamont. The Lamont Health Care Centre, only minutes away, is a fully integrated health care facility rated as one of the top small hospitals in Canada. The Bruderheim School offers classes from K-six and a number of excellent programs. There are five junior and senior High Schools in the area that students can be bussed to, including Lamont High School, which currently supports approximately 300 students from Grades seven – 12. Students, staff and parents work together to provide a positive environment where students can excel.
Bruderheim has several fully developed residential areas and a few spectacular new areas under development. A variety of attainable housing options are available. High quality municipal services, such as efficient snow removal and proper maintenance of streets, sidewalks and utility systems are a top priority to support residents. Located close to the skilled Greater Edmonton Area work force and within the Alberta Industrial Heartland, Bruderheim is ideally located for oil, gas and petrochemical industry transportation and services. There is ample opportunity in the energy sector as well as the agriculture and services sectors. Bruderheim offers a variety of recreational and leisure opportunities for people of all ages. The very active Seniors’ Centre provides a great place for the 55+ crowd to meet. The indoor and outdoor hockey arenas, asphalt trails, ball diamonds, playgrounds and parks provide a range of recreational options for residents and visitors. Elk Island National Park has hiking, camping, and a nine-hole golf course. Bruderheim holds numerous events throughout the year that attract and entertain both visitors and residents alike, including the Heartland Ag Days, which hosts the Alberta Championship Chuck wagon and Chariot races.
