The property was an abandoned lot in the heart of the Maple Creek Heritage District. The property originally had a small building on it that was constructed at the turn of the last century to house one of Maple Creek’s first newspapers “The Ranching News”. The biggest challenge for the Maple Creek CiB Steering Committed was the fundraising. Therefore, the project was undertaken in phases as the CiB committee could raise funds. All the work was done by volunteer labour. As the lot had no water service, a business across the alley has agreed to allow water to be trenched to the garden site from their building. The Kingsville Fantasy of Lights Festival has a 23 year history of partnerships that have intertwined and continue to provide valuable economic impact, tourism traffic and community involvement. Fantasy of Lights also showcases our local artists and wineries. It is important to note that the lighted displays and the mini Train were made possible by the students at Kingsville District High School. This is one of the highlights of this program and an example of a working partnership between the Festival and the community. The ongoing program development, attention to detail and community focus combine to make this event a true cornerstone of Kingsville Holiday Attractions. Stratford’s first official pollinator garden and Monarch Way station was created in 2008 at Avon Public School. After the school relocated to an abandoned school site with lots of grass and not much else, the gardens were planted. Over the years, these gardens have not only added beauty to the school grounds but also have been a valuable teaching tool for its students about all pollinator’s. Since then, many of the other schools in the city have also added pollinator gardens to their school grounds demonstrating the need to teach the young so they too can help preserve their future. Youth Involvement Engagement jeunesse City of Brandon, MB
